Alister McGrath is a former atheist, who converted to Christianity at Oxford University. He retains a high degree of interest in atheism, particularly forms of atheism which claim to be grounded in the natural sciences. He has published two substantial works in this field, each of which has generated considerable discussion:

The Twilight of Atheism: The Rise and Fall of Disbelief in the Modern World (Doubleday, 2004)

Dawkins' God: Genes, Memes, and the Meaning of Life (Blackwell, 2004).

A third work of relevance appeared in February 2007. This has been co-written with Joanna Collicutt McGrath, lecturer in the psychology of religion at Heythrop College, University of London. It represents a brief analysis of the main arguments set out in Richard Dawkins' recent book The God Delusion. The work, entitled The Dawkins Delusion: Atheist fundamentalism and the denial of the divine, was published by SPCK in February 2007 in the UK, and will be published by InterVarsity Press in July 2007 in North America. For a useful and accurate analysis of the book, see the Wikipedia article.
